― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Our town isn’t exactly a hotbed of activity, but one thing it does have are beautiful botanic gardens.
Unfortunately, as with most things that are in plentiful supply, we tend to take them for granted and rarely bother to drive the 5 minutes it takes to get there.
Since I didn’t want to let an entire summer go by without at least one walk through the gardens, last weekend I convinced Dave to stop by for what we thought would be a quick run-through.
And since it’s September, I expected to find the gardens overgrown and the flowers faded. But, happily, we were surprised to find a glorious array of vibrant blooms showing off their end-of-summer best.
Needless to say, our quick trip turned out to be a long, leisurely stroll, with lots of stops so I could take many, many photos of each flower. (I think we might have stayed a little longer than Dave would have liked–hopefully he’ll go back with me next year!)
Following are a few highlights from our enchanting visit to the botanic gardens. If you have public gardens nearby, I hope you’ll pay them a visit before summer’s over–it’s a beautiful way to spend an afternoon!
